MENASHA — A large-scale revitalization of two Menasha institutions is injecting new life into a historic neighborhood near the city’s downtown.
St. Mary Catholic Schools and St. Mary Parish have announced the culmination of more than a year’s work in the comprehensive renovation of St. Mary Catholic Elementary School and the restoration of St. Mary Church.
Located at 540 and 528 Second St., respectively, these two projects celebrate the 150-year heritage of family-focused education in Menasha.
St. Mary — as a parish and school — has been a hub for culture and learning in Menasha since 1868.
The school building, adjacent to the church, housed St. Mary Catholic High School from 1927 until 1997, when it was relocated to its present site at 1050 Zephyr Drive in the village of Fox Crossing.
The former high school became St. Mary Catholic Elementary School, one of three elementary campuses in the St. Mary Catholic Schools system.
Dave and Jane Voss provided leadership for the school renovation, making it possible to include upgrades like a new makerspace, library, playground, and updated restrooms and cafeteria.
Miron Construction was a major investment partner and contractor on the project.
“As proud alumni, Dave and I are deeply honored to give back to the place that shaped our lives in so many meaningful ways,” said Jane. “Through the support of our family and the dedication of the Miron team, we were able to help bring important upgrades to the campus, designed to enhance the learning environment for generations to come.”
“The Voss family — currently fourth-generation members of this parish and school — has a favorite Bible verse: ‘Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be required of the person entrusted with more.’ We believe it’s our responsibility to share the blessings bestowed upon us, and we’re honored to support the continued growth of St. Mary Catholic Schools and St. Mary Parish,” said Jane.
“It’s an exciting moment to see future generations blessed by the strong foundations and vision of this community,” said Dan McKenna, president of St. Mary Catholic Schools. “These are improvements worth celebrating. Beyond rejuvenating the physical environment of St. Mary Catholic Elementary, they drive instructional priorities in STEM, literacy and kinesthetic wellness. These enhancements underscore our commitment to be the best school in Menasha.”
An open house and tours will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, to allow the public to see the transformation of both Menasha landmarks. Guests can enjoy complimentary refreshments, followed by a blessing procession in the school and a block party gathering with food trucks and entertainment.
