
MANITOWOC, WI — Sr. Verone Leeman, a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity, died Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Holy Family Convent in Manitowoc. Sr. Verone was known for several roles in music ministry across the country and the state of Wisconsin, as well as service in hospitals.
Sr. Verone was born June 30, 1939, to Monroe and Veronica (Hendricks) Leeman. Her former name was Geraldine Ann Leeman. Her home parish was St. Joseph Parish in Green Bay.
She professed final vows in 1963. Sr. Verone ministered as a musician at various schools: St. Ambrose Catholic School, Ironwood, Michigan; St. Theresa Catholic School, Kekaha, Hawaii; St. Mary Catholic School, Bloomington; St. Rose Catholic School, Clintonville; Corpus Christi Catholic School, Sturgeon Bay, all in Wisconsin. She also earned a bachelor of music degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
She served as a nursing assistant during her years at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna, and St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc, both in Wisconsin.
While at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville, Ohio, she served in pastoral ministry. Sr. Verone readily served in other capacities at various places where she ministered: homemaker at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, West Point, Nebraska; volunteer to visit the sick and homemaker, Kekaha, Hawaii; library aide at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, Manitowoc; organist and kitchen helper at San Damiano, Slinger; kitchen helper and nursing assistant at St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc, all in Wisconsin.
Since 2021, she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center, where she was a member of the Community’s Prayer Apostolate.
Sr. Verone is preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Veronica (Hendricks) Leeman; siblings, Sr. Elizabeth Marie Leeman, Mary Ann Brocker, James Leeman, Janet Van Boxtel, Tom Leeman, and John Leeman; and in-laws, Don Zepnick and Lonnie Ferron.
She is survived by Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; siblings (in-laws), Sr. Pauline Marie Leeman, Jeanne Zepnick, William (Barbara) Leeman, Betty Lou Ferron, (Cathie Leeman), (Gene Van Boxtel), Joseph (Debbie) Leeman, Peter (Anita) Leeman, Daniel (Marie) Leeman, (Marcia Leeman), and Teresa (David) Rosenbaum; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Convent with burial to follow at Holy Family Convent Cemetery on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
