Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity dies at age 82

MANITOWOC — Sr. Maureen Bomaster, 82, a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity, died Jan. 31 at Holy Family Convent in Manitowoc.

Sr. Maureen, whose home parish was St. Mary, Gaastra, Mich., was a graduate of Holy Family College, Manitowoc. She entered the order in 1959 and professed final vows in 1966.

Sr. Maureen served as a teacher in Wisconsin at St. Philip, Green Bay; St. Joseph, Sturgeon Bay; Catholic Central, Rhinelander; St. John, Seymour; St. Francis, Hollandtown; and St. Mary, Kaukauna. She was also a teacher, tutor and minister in outreach programs at Holy Angels, Chicago. 

Sr. Maureen later tutored and volunteered in the religious education program at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, Two Rivers. Other ministries included helping with sacramental preparation at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Manitowoc.

Sr. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and LaVerne (Begres) Bomaster; brothers-in-law, Raymond Sablich and Bruce Kasten; and a sister-in-law, Jackie Bomaster.

She is survived by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a brother, Don Bomaster; sisters, Diane Sablich and Adell “Dollie” Kasten; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral Mass was celebrated on Feb. 5 at Holy Family Convent. Franciscan Fr. Placid Stroik presided. Burial followed in the Holy Family Convent Cemetery.
