Sr. Mary Charles Hlinak, who ministered as a homemaker, dies at 100

MANITOWOC — Sr. Mary Charles Hlinak, 100, a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity, died Feb. 11 at Holy Family Convent in Manitowoc.

Her home parish was St. Joseph, Kewaunee. She entered the order in 1944 and professed final vows in 1951.

Sr. Mary Charles ministered as a homemaker in Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. In the Diocese of Green Bay, she served at St. Joseph, Green Bay; St. Theresa, Appleton; Sacred Heart Seminary, Oneida; and Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. While at Holy Family Convent, she also helped in the kitchen.   

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary (Herold) Hlinak; brothers (sisters-in-law), Paul Hlinak, John (Janet) Hlinak; Francis Hlinak; Jim (Jeanie) Hlinak; Charles (Joanne) Hlinak and Reiny Hlinak; and a sister (brother-in-law), Marion (Donald) Hostak.

She is survived by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; sisters-in-law, Caroline Hlinak and Joyce Hlinak; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral Mass was scheduled for Feb. 15 at Holy Family Convent with Franciscan Fr. Gerald Prusakowski as the presider. Burial to follow in the Holy Family Convent Cemetery.
