SINSINAWA — Sinsinawa Dominican Sr. Elaine Ann Taylor, 84, died April 23 at St. Dominic Villa in Hazel Green, Wis.
Sr. Elaine, whose religious name was Sr. Bartholomew, was born in Kenton, Ohio, the daughter of Walter and Lucille (Lynch) Taylor.
She made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa on Aug. 5, 1961, and her perpetual profession on Aug. 5, 1967.
Her ministry was dedicated to teaching the arts. In the Diocese of Green Bay, Sr. Elaine taught at Annunciation School in Green Bay.
In Minnesota, Sr. Elaine was a teacher at Incarnation School in Minneapolis and at Consolidated Catholic Schools and Bethlehem Academy, both in Faribault.
In Chicago, she taught art at St. Thomas Apostle School and St. Benedict High School, where she also taught religion. She also taught at Trinity High School in River Forest, Ill.
Sr. Elaine also taught art at St. Mary High School in Cheyenne, Wyo.
In Florida, she ministered as a drama teacher at Rosarian Academy, West Palm Beach, and as a religion teacher and drama teacher at Sacred Heart School, Pinellas Park, and Academy of the Holy Names School, Tampa.
She founded and directed the St. Petersburg Petite Little Theatre.
Sr. Elaine is survived by two sisters, Jane Kantowicz and Mary Taylor; nieces and nephews; and her Dominican Sisters, with whom she shared 62 years of religious life.
Her parents; a sister, Nanette Taylor; and a brother, Timothy Taylor, preceded her in death.
The funeral Mass was held on April 30 at St. Dominic Villa, followed by burial of the cremains in St. Clara Cemetery in Sinsinawa, Wis.
