Sr. Carletta Christianson, who taught in Wisconsin schools for many years, dies at 92

MANITOWOC, WI — Sr. Carletta Christianson, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died on July 31, 2026, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. She was 92.
The former Joyce Christianson was born on June 26, 1934, to Carl and Rose (Barkovich) Christianson. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, and a master of arts degree from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska.
In 1952, Sr. Carletta entered the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, and she professed her final vows in 1954.
Sr. Carletta was involved in many ministries throughout her life. She was a teacher at St. Mary, Rhinelander; St. Anne, Francis Creek; and St. Wendel, Cleveland, all in Wisconsin; Cathedral, Honolulu, and St. John Vianney, Kailua, both in Hawaii.
During her years at St. Wendel and St. John Vianney, she was also the principal. While at Sacred Heart, Sells (Covered Wells), Arizona, Sr. Carletta helped with the religious education and adult education programs.
While working at Xavier, Appleton; St. Anne, Francis Creek; St. Clare, Manitowoc; St. Andrew, Manitowoc; St. Mary, Clarks Mills; Holy Family Conservatory, Manitowoc; and Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, all in Wisconsin, Sr. Carletta used her communication, librarian, homemaking, and pastoral ministry skills. She was a Sponsor Presence member at Holy Family Memorial Hospital for several years and served as a member of the community prayer apostolate at St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc, after she became a resident there in 2014.
Sr. Carletta is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Rose (Barkovich) Christianson.
She is survived by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, sister (brother-in-law) Beverly (Vernon) Lewis, nieces, other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on August 7, 2026, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, with Rev. Placid Stroik, OFM, as celebrant. Burial followed at Holy Family Convent Cemetery.
