Sr. Cabrini Schmidt, who taught at schools throughout the diocese, dies at 101

MANITOWOC — Sr. Cabrini Schmidt, 101, a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity, died on March 30 at Holy Family Convent in Manitowoc. She would have turned 102 on April 4.

Sr. Cabrini, the former Eileen Schmidt, was a member of St. Therese Parish, Appleton, when she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in 1939. She professed final vows in 1945. 

She served as a teacher in Wisconsin and Nebraska. In the Diocese of Green Bay, Sr. Cabrini taught at Guardian Angels Boarding School, Oneida; St. Mary, Kaukauna; St. Anthony, Oconto Falls; St. James Cooperstown; Holy Rosary, Kewaunee; St. Agnes and St. Bernard, both in Green Bay; St. John, Antigo; and St. Joseph, Manitowoc. 

Following her retirement from the classroom, she performed various tasks at St. Joseph, Rice Lake; St. Aloysius, Kaukauna; San Damiano Convent, Slinger; and St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc.

Sr. Cabrini was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mae (Hinks) Schmidt; siblings and in-laws, James Schmidt, Mary Schmidt, Joseph (Dolores) Schmidt, Editha (Robert) Bonneville, Larry (Geneva) Schmidt and Jerome (Alice) Schmidt. 

She is survived by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a sister-in-law, Shirley Schmidt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on April 3 at Holy Family Convent. Franciscan Fr. Placid Stroik will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Family Convent Cemetery in Manitowoc.
