PARTNERSHIP EXPANDS COLLEGE CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES: St. Ignatius Chesterton Academy (Kaukauna) juniors and seniors have additional opportunities to earn college credit while in high school through an expanded Franciscan Advantage program this school year.

Franciscan Advantage, now in its third year, is an academic partnership between the Chesterton Schools Network (CSN) and Franciscan University of Steubenville.

For the 2024-25 school year, additional courses and areas of study are being offered by St. Ignatius through Franciscan Advantage, including theology, philosophy, literature and chemistry courses. This is an expansion from the first areas of study – theology and philosophy – offered during past school years.

St. Ignatius students earn dual credit through Franciscan Advantage by concurrently enrolling in designated courses as part of their regular daily course schedule at St. Ignatius and successfully completing college-level examinations administered online by Franciscan University. The St. Ignatius courses are aligned with Franciscan University’s curriculum. College credit earned may also be transferred to other institutions.

ST. NORBERT COLLEGE SURPASSES FUNDRAISING GOAL: St. Norbert College (SNC), De Pere, announced the completion of its “Support What Matters” fundraising campaign, surpassing the $125 million goal.

Launched publicly on May 19, 2022, the campaign aimed to significantly grow the college’s endowment in celebration of its 125th anniversary. The campaign concluded on May 31, 2024, and has raised more than $128 million, according to SNC.
“We are deeply grateful to our generous donors, whose unwavering support has made this achievement possible,” said Dr. Laurie M. Joyner, president of SNC. “This milestone not only strengthens our endowment but also reinforces our commitment to providing accessible and affordable education. The impact of this campaign will be felt for generations, ensuring that St. Norbert College continues to serve its mission and thrive for the next 125 years.”
The “Support What Matters” campaign began with a silent phase in June 2016 and garnered substantial contributions from alumni, parents, friends, faculty and staff.
According to SNC, the campaign had 17,000 unique donors and:

  • created 139 new endowments.
  • nearly doubled the institution’s endowment to $188 million.
  • funded the development of the Donald & Patricia Schneider Family Hall.
  • took in $50 million in endowed gifts.
  • created $17 million for the St. Norbert Fund unrestricted scholarship fund.
  • raised $28 million from alumni.

Key priorities of the campaign included scholarships and financial aid, strategic innovation, mission (Catholic, Norbertine, liberal arts) and contemporary student experiences.

WORLD DAY FOR GRANDPARENTS: The Office of Family Life and the Office of Hispanic Ministry for the Diocese of Green Bay invites all parishes to honor grandparents and the elderly with a special prayer during Masses on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Pope Francis instituted the church-wide celebration of World Day for Grandparents on July 24, 2022, close to the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne.

The U.S. bishops have approved the transfer of the celebration of World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly in the United States from the fourth Sunday of July to the first weekend after Labor Day in September to coincide with National Grandparents Day in the United States.

This year’s theme, chosen by the Holy Father, is: “Do not cast me off in my old age” (cf. Psalm 71:9). The theme calls attention to the fact that, sadly, loneliness is the bitter lot in the lives of many elderly, so often victims of the throwaway culture. Therefore, we are invited to show our tender love for grandparents and the elderly members of our families.
