PULASKI FRANCISCAN PRIEST DIES: Fr. Richard Tulko, OFM, died on Aug. 30 at Milwaukee’s Catholic Home. Responding to a call to religious life as a Franciscan, Fr. Tulko, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., traveled to Lake Geneva, Wis., to begin his novitiate, making his simple profession on Aug. 15, 1956. He made his solemn profession on Aug. 15, 1959, and was ordained a priest on June 13, 1964.
From 1965 to 1971, Fr. Tulko worked at Franciscan Publishers in Pulaski. He was editor of Franciscan Message and The Chronicle from 1968 to 1971.
Fr. Tulko also served as a chaplain at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay from 1980 to 1983.
Other ministries in Pulaski included serving as assistant provincial secretary from 1984 to 1985 and later as the full-time provincial secretary from 1986 to 1999. During this time, he was also the director of candidates in Pulaski from 1994 to 1999. He served as guardian in Pulaski, leading the local Franciscan community, in 2002 and, in 2005, he served as guardian of St. Mary of the Angels Friary in Green Bay. He also managed the original Franciscan Store until 2008.
The funeral Mass was celebrated on Sept. 5 at Franciscan Queen of Peace Friary in Burlington, Wis. Interment followed in the Provincial Cemetery in Pulaski.
