One of only 11 deaf Catholic priests in the US comes to Green Bay to celebrate deaf Mass
GREEN BAY, WI — Fr. Christopher Klusman of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee came to St. John the Evangelist Parish to celebrate Mass and hear confessions for the Catholic deaf community on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
There were no musicians at the Mass, as the deaf community typically does not have music during liturgical celebrations because they “are a people without sound,” wrote Jean Laux, deaf liaison for St. John the Evangelist Parish, in the prior Sunday’s bulletin.
Two interpreters served at the Mass, one signing in American Sign Language and one voicing in English.
A luncheon followed the Mass, after which Fr. Klusman, one of only 11 deaf Catholic priests in the U.S., heard the confessions of the deaf community.
St. Ignatius Catholic School recognized as a Newman Guide Recommended school
KAUKAUNA, WI — St. Ignatius Catholic School and Chesterton Academy is honored to announce that it has been named a Newman Guide Recommended school. St. Ignatius is the first school in the Diocese of Green Bay to be recommended in The Newman Guide, and one of 28 K-12 schools in the United States.
The Newman Guide is run by The Cardinal Newman Society and recognizes K-12 schools committed to upholding standards of faithful Catholic education and joyfully practicing fidelity to the Catholic Church. Newman Guide Recommended schools demonstrate a strong commitment to academic excellence and the formation of virtue in their students. They enjoy national recognition for their strong Catholic identity by being named in The Newman Guide.
In addition to its commitment to a strong classical curriculum, St. Ignatius Catholic School and Chesterton Academy embraces Catholic teachings, morals, and virtues to cultivate a joyful Catholic community. Students encounter Jesus through daily Mass, regular prayer, and a Catholic environment. This new national designation demonstrates the school’s commitment to always living out this faith in the tradition of Catholic classical education.
In response to the recommendation, Headmaster Drew Mulloy shared, “We are very proud to be recommended in The Newman Guide. This national designation recognizes the deep faith of our parishes, teachers, and families, as well as the way we help our students live it out each day. Our commitment to the Catholic faith and classical education remains unwavering, and we always strive to share goodness, truth, and beauty with our students as we aim to form a joyful community of disciples of Christ.”
The Cardinal Newman Society was founded in 1993. Its mission is to promote and defend faithful Catholic education. It serves the needs of Catholic families and educators by advocating and supporting fidelity to the teachings of the Catholic Church across all levels and methods of Catholic education; identifying and promoting clear standards of Catholic identity and best practices in Catholic education; and recognizing exemplary Catholic educators and institutions committed to truth and the integral formation of their students.
St. Ignatius Catholic School and Chesterton Academy serves students in grades 3K through 12.
