CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION: Fr. Ryan Krueger carries the monstrance during the Corpus Christi procession (The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ), following 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, June 2, at Corpus Christi Parish in Sturgeon Bay. The day also marked the 12-year anniversary of Fr. Krueger’s ordination to the priesthood. For the past five years, he has served as pastor of Corpus Christi Parish and St. Mary Parish, Maplewood. On July 1, he will begin his new appointment as pastor and rector of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay, and as pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Green Bay. A farewell party for Fr. Krueger will be held following 4:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday, June 15, in the Corpus Christi Social Hall.

CINDERELLA TEA PARTY: Children and families at HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital in Green Bay were treated to a visit from a well-known fairy-tale princess on May 16. Cinderella whisked her way through the pediatric hematology-oncology clinic and the pediatric care and pediatric intensive care units, hosting tea parties and sharing hugs and smiles. Complete with tiaras and magic wands, the visit provided the opportunity for patients and families to create special memories within the hospital walls. STATE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONS: Track and field athletes from diocesan high schools won individual state championships at the 2024 WIAA State Track and Field Championships, held May 31-June 1 at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. In Division 3, junior Erin Moore of Lourdes Academy, Oshkosh, is the girls’ state champion in the 800 meters. In Division 2 girls, Lilie Fouts, a senior at Xavier High School, Appleton, won the state championship in the 1,600 meters and finished third in the 3,200 meters. Sydney Whitehouse, a senior at Notre Dame Academy, Green Bay, is the girls’ Division 2 state champion in the discus. Whitehouse is also a state champion in the 4 x 100 meter relay along with Triton teammates Julia Nolle, a sophomore, and seniors Madeline Rose and Danika Apple. In Division 2 boys’ competition, Ben Olvey, a senior from Xavier, won gold in the 110-meter hurdles. James Flanigan, a junior at Notre Dame Academy won the state championship in the shot put for Division 2 boys. He finished second in the discus. Last year, Flanigan won the discus state championship and finished second in the shot put.

SPIRITUS TEAM: Spiritus seeks young adults to serve as part of a missionary team leading students into an encounter with Jesus and igniting their faith. Spiritus missionaries live in community and travel throughout Wisconsin from mid-August to mid-May facilitating retreats for Catholic students in grades 2-12. Missionaries receive a monthly stipend, on-on-one mentoring, spiritual direction, food, lodging, health insurance and a $3,000 completion stipend. Applications are due by July 1. HOST AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT: Global Outreach is a Catholic exchange program which brings students from Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine to the United States for a year of study at Catholic high schools. By hosting a young person from Central/Eastern Europe, American families share friendship and faith with their Global Outreach students.

Students arrive in early August and return home about June 15 after the school year. The host family’s commitment is to provide room, board, transportation, and the setting of a loving and supportive home environment. CONCERT SERIES: The Knights on the Fox summer concert series returns for its 21st season on the St. Norbert College campus in De Pere. All five concerts are free and open to the public. Knights on the Fox features live music in a casual atmosphere along the banks of the Fox River. Concertgoers can carry in their own picnic or purchase sandwiches, snacks and beverages at Phil’s, St. Norbert’s on-campus restaurant located in the Campus Center. Picnicking begins at 5 p.m., followed by concerts from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Concerts will be canceled by 3 p.m. in the event of inclement weather the day of the event. The docks of the Thompson Marina will be open for those who wish to come by boat. Parking is available in the lots off of Third Street and College Avenue, with handicapped parking available in the lot near Old St. Joseph Church. Lawn chairs and blankets are suggested. Follow the signs to find your way to the parking lots.

The 2024 Knights on the Fox dates and performers are: Tuesday, July 9, The Cougars (rock); Tuesday, July 16, Smoke Road (country); Tuesday, July 23, Copper Box (polka, rock and blues); Tuesday, July 30, Brass Differential (jazz, blues, funk, R & B and soul; and Tuesday, Aug. 6, Panchromatic Steel (island-style rock and jazz).

GRANT AWARDED: The student council at St. Thomas Aquinas Academy Middle School, Peshtigo, was recently awarded a $200 “Do-Good” Grant from Modern Woodmen of America. The group purchased 48 backpacks, which were donated to the local St. Vincent de Paul’s Back to School Supply Drive. 

BEDDING DONATION: The Sewing for Others group from SS. Edward and Isidore, Flintville, recently delivered quilts, pillowcases and pillows to the local Sleep in Heavenly Peace organization. This donation helped Sleep in Heavenly Peace promote their goal that no kid sleeps on the floor in their town.

PERU MISSION TRIP:  Ten parish members from St. Mary, Winneconne, will travel to the Casa Hogar Juan Pable ll Orphanage in Lima, Peru, in July. Part of the mission experience is to bring supplies to this impoverished area. The group is seeking old large suitcases to take to the orphanage, which will be used as dressers and furniture for the children. See a complete wish list at https://www.homeajpm.org/home.
