BOOK SHOWCASES ABBEY’S STAINED-GLASS: The Norbertine Community of St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere has published “The Liturgy in Stained Glass,” a book spotlighting the Abbey’s array of stained-glass windows.
The book’s publication this year coincides with the 100th anniversary of St. Norbert Abbey receiving “abbey status” (1925-2025).
“The Liturgy in Stained Glass” is 133 pages, many glossy to accentuate the stained-glass photography.
The detailed stained-glass window descriptions and most of the accompanying text in “The Liturgy in Stained Glass” were compiled and edited by 91-year-old Norbertine Fr. Stephen J. Rossey.
Fr. Rossey joined the Norbertine Community of St. Norbert Abbey in 1953 while attending St. Norbert College (SNC). He graduated from SNC in 1956 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1959, shortly before the new (current) St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere was completed. The previous Abbey was on the campus of St. Norbert College.
Fr. Rossey has loved art since he was a youngster; he went on to earn a master of art degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1966. Fr. Rossey also founded the art department at Archmere Academy, a Catholic college preparatory school located in Claymont, Del.
Fr. Rossey taught drawing, printmaking, watercolor, enameling and art history for nearly 30 years.
To purchase a copy of the book or to view sample pages, visit Windows Book | St. Norbert Abbey. Copies also may be purchased in person at the Abbey’s main entrance during regular business hours.
