St. Norbert College students meet with Bishop Ricken during SEEK conference in Ohio

COLUMBUS, OH — “What do you seek?” This was the question raised by Pope Leo XIV in a video message to 25 St. Norbert College students, along with more than 16,000 other college-aged students, during the 2026 SEEK Conference in Columbus, Ohio.
First asked by Christ in the Gospel of John, the question remains profoundly relevant to today’s young Catholics. Across the country, dioceses are noticing a shift: members of Gen Z are increasingly turning toward the Catholic faith and Christianity in their search for meaning in a rapidly changing world. For students at SEEK, that search was met with a renewed sense of hope for the Church’s future.
“It was amazing to see Jesus fully present right in front of us and be able to adore him alongside thousands of others in the same room,” recalled Liam O’Keefe ’29.

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen beatification advances after six-year pause

(OSV News) — Venerable Fulton J. Sheen will soon be beatified, now that the Vatican has given the green light, the Diocese of Peoria, Illinois, announced February 9. No date or location for the beatification was given.
The announcement comes six years after the Holy See postponed the beatification, initially scheduled for December 2019, only weeks before it was to take place.
“The Holy See has informed me that the Cause for the Venerable Servant of God Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen can proceed to Beatification,” Bishop Louis Tylka of Peoria said in a February 9 statement. “The next step in the process is the celebration of the Beatification, in which Fulton Sheen would be declared Blessed.”
He added, “We are working with the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints at the Vatican to determine the details for the upcoming Beatification.”
The bishop said the date and event details will be released soon through celebratesheen.com, the website for Archbishop Sheen’s cause.

Fr. Shillcox appointed as prior of St. Norbert Abbey

DE PERE, WI — The Rt. Rev. Bradley Vanden Branden, O. Praem., abbot of St. Norbert Abbey, has announced the appointment of Fr. Timothy Shillcox, O. Praem., as prior of St. Norbert Abbey, effective on February 10, 2026.
The role of prior is that of a religious superior and vicar of the abbot. In the absence of the abbot, he functions with full authority. The prior’s position is primarily pastoral in nature, reaching out to those who serve and live within the Norbertine context and ministering to them on a one-to-one basis. He also represents the abbot and Norbertine Community at religious and civic events, meetings and celebrations.
“I welcome the opportunity to offer pastoral care to the Norbertine Community and to support Abbot Bradley,” Fr. Shillcox said.
Fr. Shillcox, son of Wayne and Germaine (Siebers) Shillcox, was born and raised in Appleton, where he was a member of St. Pius X Parish.
He is a graduate of Appleton West High School (1972) and Lawrence University (1976). Fr. Shillcox earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art and a master of divinity from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1987.

Fr. Shillcox spent 10 years teaching art and religion at Premontre/Notre Dame High School. He then served as a parish priest for 30 years within the Diocese of Green Bay at St. Agnes in Green Bay, Holy Cross in Bay Settlement, Our Lady of Lourdes in De Pere, Resurrection in Allouez, and St. Rose in Clintonville/St. Mary in Bear Creek.
For the past four years. Fr. Shillcox has served as the director of formation at St. Norbert Abbey. He will continue in that role as well.
Fr. Shillcox succeeds Abbot Vanden Branden as prior. Abbot Vanden Branden served as prior from 2018 until last month, when he was elected abbot. Abbot Vanden Branden, who turned 39 earlier this month, is the youngest abbot in the Abbey’s 133-year history, and he is the first member of the community to serve as prior and then become abbot.
