CHURCH ANNIVERSARY: St. Margaret Parish in Pembine marked the 50-year anniversary of the church on Saturday, Aug. 17. Bishop David Ricken was the celebrant at the anniversary Mass. A parish celebration featured food, refreshments and raffles.
The roots of the parish date back to 1890 when the first Mass in Pembine was celebrated in a one-room schoolhouse. The first church was built in Pembine in 1909 and was called St. Ignatius. The parish was incorporated in 1916 by Bishop Paul Rhode.
A new church was built in 1926 and the parish name was changed to St. Margaret in honor of the saint who had been queen of Scotland.
In 1956, the parish community determined that the congregation had outgrown the then 30-year-old church building, but construction of the current church didn’t begin until 16 years later, in 1972. The bell from the old church was used in the new church.
The cornerstone was blessed and the new church was dedicated by Bishop Aloysius Wycislo on Dec. 2, 1973.

BLOOD DONORS NEEDED: The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage. Since July 1, the Red Cross’s national blood supply has fallen by more than 25%. Blood donors of all types are needed, especially those with type O blood, and are urged to give as soon as possible to help patients receive life saving medical care.
“It’s critical hospitals have both type O positive and O negative blood ready to go for patients in the most life-threatening situations,” said Dr. Eric Gehrie, executive physician director for the Red Cross. “Type O is especially important for victims of accidents and other trauma who are receiving emergency treatment. Now is the time for donors of all blood types to give and ensure hospital shelves can be restocked before any impact to patient care.”
To make an appointment, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit Donate Blood, Platelets or Plasma. Give Life | Red Cross Blood or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
As a thank you, those who come give blood, platelets or plasma Aug. 1-31 will receive a $20 Amazon.com Gift Card by email. For details, visit $20 Amazon.com Gift Card for Giving Blood | Red Cross Blood Services.
