The Legion of Mary in the Diocese of Green Bay celebrated its annual ACIES on April 13 at St. Pius X Church in Appleton. ACIES is not an acronym, but rather a Legion of Mary term adopted from the Roman legion. It refers to a gathering in battle array. The ACIES is held on a Saturday morning near the feast of the Annunciation. Members pray the rosary and legion prayers, reconsecrate themselves to Mary at Mass and enjoy a social. Works of service by Legion of Mary members include leading the rosary at retirement and nursing homes, visiting the sick and homebound, distributing the holy Eucharist at hospitals, encouraging Eucharistic Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, teaching religious education, spreading devotion to the family rosary and being available for general service to others. The Legion of Mary in the Diocese of Green Bay has four praesidium: Appleton, Chilton, Oshkosh and Neenah. Those interested in joining are encouraged to attend a meeting.
