GREEN BAY, WI — The Missionary Leadership Institute (MLI) of the Diocese of Green Bay commissioned 48 leaders on May 14, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay.

The intensive program, offered and organized by the Office of Lay Leader Formation, is designed for a wide variety of parish leaders to discern their vocation, their particular call to holiness, and be formed as leaders who will evangelize and disciple others. It also forms parish staff members to serve the church more effectively in lay ministry.

The candidates have been approved for commissioning as missionary disciples for the Diocese of Green Bay after one to two years of intensive study.

Fr. John Girotti, vicar general and moderator of the curia for the Diocese of Green Bay, celebrated the Mass and blessed the lay ecclesial ministry and intensive year participants.

“My invitation to you tonight is to pay particularly close attention to all God’s people who we serve, but focus on the least, the unlikeliest, the meekest, the quietest, the humblest, the most invisible,” Fr. Girotti said in his homily to the candidates.

The leaders were called and then declared their willingness to serve the church. This was affirmed by the pastors, pastoral leaders and assembly present.

MLI is offered in English and Spanish.
