
GREEN BAY, WI — Deacon Thomas Jerome Mahoney, 75, died Sunday, November 9, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on November 26, 1949, he is the son of the late Jeremiah and Marion (Sieben) Mahoney.
He married the former Susan Engimann on June 12, 1971, in Joliet, Illinois They have been married for 54 years. Tom graduated from Joliet West High School class of 1967.
He then went on to Northern Illinois University where he received a bachelor’s degree in earth science (meteorology) along with a master of science in education. He attended Northwestern University for graduate work. Deacon Mahoney’s first job was as a teacher in Palatine, Illinois.
Deacon Mahoney and his wife, Sue, moved to Green Bay, where he was the weekend meteorologist at WFRV and an earth science teacher at Oconto Middle School. He then became a meteorologist at KWTV in Oklahoma City. Deacon Mahoney then became chief meteorologist at WISN in Milwaukee. Next, he was chief meteorologist at Christian Broadcasting Network for the national television show “USam.”
The couple then moved back to Green Bay in 1982, where he served as chief meteorologist at WFRV until his retirement in 2013. Additionally, Deacon Mahoney was an adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB), where he taught meteorology and served on many national boards for the American Meteorological Society.
Deacon Mahoney was ordained a deacon on May 16, 2009, in the Roman Catholic Church at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay by Bishop David L. Ricken. He served as a deacon for SS. Peter and Paul Parish, St. Francis Xavier Cathedral Parish, and St. John the Evangelist Parish, all in Green Bay. Deacon Mahoney was also assigned to UWGB Catholic Campus Ministry. He was a grand knight in the Knights of Columbus at several councils.
He was heavily involved in his community through Families of Children with Cancer, Christian Outreach Ecumenical Thanksgiving Dinner, and various other charitable organizations.
Deacon Mahoney enjoyed traveling the world, especially to Hawaii with Sue. One of his passions in Hawaii was scuba diving, and he was a Master Scuba Diver. Music was very dear to his heart. He was a percussionist in the Joliet High School Band and continued going back every year for the alumni concert.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Mahoney; children, Steve (Jennifer) Mahoney and their children, Abby and Joselyn (Tanner); Michael (Kelly) Mahoney and their children, Quinn and Peyton; Molly (Kevin) Stanley and their children, Connor, Patrick, Sean, and Colleen; Daniel (Danielle) Mahoney and their children, Henry, Jack, Adam and Andy; Timothy (Jennifer) Mahoney and their children, Fulton and Adele; son-in-law, Robert Signaigo; siblings, Patricia (Steve) Thomson and Margaret Kaluzny; Goddaughter, Jane Sheehan; cousin, George Mahoney III; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeremiah (Marion) Mahoney; his daughter, Amy (Mahoney) Signaigo; and his father and mother-in-law, James (Shirley) Engimann.
Visitation took place at St. John the Evangelist Parish, 427 St. John St., Green Bay, 54301, Wednesday, November 12, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. A parish wake service was held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday morning at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 139 S. Madison St., Green Bay, from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Bishop Ricken as celebrant.
