Deacon Michael Dabeck, known for his compassionate heart, dies after battle with glioblastoma

ALLOUEZ, WI — Deacon Michael Dabeck, 68, who served as a deacon at St. Matthew Parish, Allouez, and Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Green Bay, died on June 7, 2025, after a brief battle with glioblastoma. 

He was known for his gift of pastoral care and his love and compassion, which helped many people get through difficult times.

Deacon Dabeck was born on Sept. 29, 1957, and grew up in Manitowoc where he attended Roncalli High School and discovered his love of sports. 

He graduated in 1976 and then attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. It was there that he met his wife, Ann Christopherson. They married on Aug. 7, 1981, and were married 44 years at the time of his death. 

Deacon Dabeck worked as a salesperson for Stock Lumber/Wisconsin Building Supply for many years before he was ordained to the permanent diaconate on May 15, 2010.

He continued his stewardship as a volunteer for the Miracle League and NEW All-Star League. He was an umpire for almost 10 years. 

Deacon Dabeck is survived by his wife, Ann, their two sons and daughter-in-law, Jameson and Micayla Dabeck and Robenson Dabeck; his father, Walter Dabeck; siblings, Donna Dabeck and her husband Rick Novosad, Jim (Dawn) Dabeck and Mary (David) Marks; and Ann’s siblings, Paul (Mollie) Christopherson, Jan (Doug) Phillips and Bryan (Tammy) Christopherson.

A visitation was held Friday, June 13, 2025, at Cotter Funeral Home with a prayer service led by Deacon David Scheuer. The funeral Mass was officiated by Fr. Matt Simonar and concelebrated by Fr. Bob Kabat at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Green Bay.
